Puppy Love

Well, you might exactly call him a puppy. If you have been reading for a while, you probably know him as Elton...

He is our Boston Terrier and we are obsessed with him. Brent and I got him together when we had been dating for about a year and a half. Elton is now seven and a half years old. He is the best cuddle buddy ever. He is potty trained and very sweet. Sure, he has his issues like anyone else, but we think he is pretty great for a dog.

He is part of our family and always makes appearances in our Christmas cards...

He is also pretty photogenic....

Elton has a few little issues and one happens to be sensitive digestion. Brent and I try to help him with this. We only feed him dog food and we make sure it's a natural one. We know doing these things will help with his longevity and quality of life. That's important to us because he lives a happy little life and we really enjoy having him around.

Elton has been on a natural dry food for quite some time. The first vet he saw, when he was a puppy, said this would be best for him. He said, really, a natural food would be best for any dog. That totally makes sense because that's what's best for human's and their health as well. Brent and I have also worked on that over the years.

We were recently given the opportunity for him to try out Purina Pro Plan Selects. They have natural dry food options now so we decided to give it a try! Elton really seemed to like it and had no further issues with his tummy or anything else. We went with the natural chicken and brown rice formula. You can check it out here

I think food is a pretty easy step one can take to help the quality of their dogs life and I was glad to give Elton a change from what he had been eating for so long. We plan to stick with the Purina Pro Plan Select for now.

If you want to try it out, you can get a $3.00 off coupon here!

Along with good nutrition, exercise is very important. Oh the tennis balls we have gone through!
We have a 11 year old lab who was recently hit by a car and had a big hip surgery. The vet said he would have never made it if he wasn't in such good shape. Two months later, he is surprising the vets by using his leg so much (one they thought he might never use again).

We also feed our Frenchie natural food. We feed him Pinnacle which is grain free and holistic. Frenchies are known to have skin problems so this helps too! We are sure he gets enough exercise and always takes his heart worm! Elton is a total ham!

My dog at my mom's house (I got her before I left for college and am currently in college) gets lots of toys to ensure her exercise - tennis balls are a particular favorite. We throw them and she runs after them VERY vigorously and she never gets tired of it.

a long an happy life for a dog = lots of love, number one. Next, lots of exercise and good nutrition. Sooie (yes, her full registered name is Arkansas's Woo Pig Sooie) and Rae (Arkansas's RaeZorback) are spoiled rotten. They're our first children, and get lots of love and attention. We've spent time in obedience training (even though you wouldn't know with Rae), and have had Sooie in agility. It's fun and exciting. Lovin' me some Elton pics..he's precious! stevennally04@gmail.com

To keep a dog healthy and prolong their longevity, we always took them to the vet for checkups and recommended shots, maintained their teethe, and used flea and tick drops to keep them free of parasites. Also, feeding a good quality dog food is important, especially as the dog gets older and develops allergies, joint problems, and dry skin. altern147 [at] yahoo [dot] com

We have an sweet as can be English Bulldog puppy. She has many problems that we gladly deal with. Wrinkles, tail, and ears are cleaned every other day. She loves to fetch her green ball so it is a constant source of excercise for her. She hates her harness but once we get going on a walk she loves it! And the most important thing we can do to keep our baby happy is tons of love and back scratches!!!

Our sweetie is a wire hair fox terrier and her name is Lexi. We, very sadly, had to say goodbye to our last love, Chloe, in June of 2010 so when we were ready for another dog to fill our house and hearts with love we went through a rescue league to get Lexi. She was 6 years old and needed a new family to love her desperately. We only feed her all natural food and recently switched her to hypoallergenic food and she takes allergy meds. She also joins us for walks daily. We would and will do anything toake sure the newest member of our family is healthy.

You know I have a soft spot in my heart for Boston Terriers! ;) I love Elton. I bet he'd be good friends with Frisco & Buxton.

Being a Boston owner, you know how much of an issue they have with their skin, eyes, etc. Gotta love them, though, right??

We are VERY strict about what Frisco & Buxton eat. They do not eat any people food unless it's some pineapple or another dog friendly fruit that we're eating...but they don't get it often. Their food is as close to natural dog food as we can get without doing the whole raw, wild thing. It's important that their food is gluten & grain free because that seems to really mess with their skin.

We are currently feeding our dogs Natural Balance. We recently switched from Blue Buffalo. So far, so good! We also make sure our boys have plenty of fresh water indoors & outdoors because they love to run, jump & play so much.

We adopted our dog Blaze 2 1/2 years ago from a rescue group.

He has become quite the little family member. We even celebrate his birthday with gifts. We take care of him with great natural food, exercise, love and lots of attention.

About a year and 3 months ago we decided to pay the favor forward. We decided since someone helped rescue Blaze, we would help rescue other puppies. We work with the same organization that we adopted our dog through. We have fostered 18 puppies and are blessed with keeping in touch with several of the families. We make sure those puppies know that they are going to have a wonderful life. We make sure they have great puppy food, toys and lots of love and attention. They become part of our family too.

We do our best to make sure she eats natural food as well - we have tried a bunch of other varieties but only the natural ones seem to agree with her. She has had many bad reactions - digestive, fur, and skin - to certain foods. We want the best for our sweet pup - she has been our best friend for years, and her unconditional love and happy demeanor bring a smile to our faces even on the gloomest of days. - Danielle

In addition to all the right food and medical care, we just spoil him in general. For example, Buddy loves to walk the beach. When he thinks it's time to go, he grabs his leash and drags it around until we take him.

We make sure our dog eats right, gets lots of exercise and plenty of attention.

Just like my kids I make sure Luci gets her shots, checkups, good food, fresh water, sleep and lots of exercise, mainly chasing chipmunks in the summer and squirrels in the winter. (the dog chasing the critters-not the kids)

At the top of my list is making sure to have regular visits to the vet for shots and any preventive care needed. Nutrition and exercise and lots of love are also high on the list.

The biggest thing we do is make sure our dog doesn't get fat. Nothing ages a dog faster than carrying around a lot of extra weight.

It's good to know that Meat is the first ingredient. That is the difference between the cheap formulas and a premium formula like pro plan. The store brands often have corn or wheat as the first ingredient. I make sure to buy premium brands like proplan to ensure my pet's health.

Of course we feed a high quality food, but we also get check-ups twice a year with blood work once a year.

We have two dogs and two cats. We take a few trips during the year and hate the thought of leaving our pets in small cages at the vet or open cages exposed to insects and the elements at a kennel. We bought a used motor home so that we could take our pets a/k/a "the kids" with us when we travel.
